This year, they chose warm autumn tones: burgundy, deep pink, hydrangeas, dahlias, and the aptly named rose The Queen’s Crown. Nearly 1,700 flowers from Deventer adorned the Royal Theatre in The Hague, where King Willem-Alexander delivered the Speech from the Throne. We created twelve floral arrangements with these blooms, giving the setting a warm and atmospheric appearance.
We worked with seasonal flowers from Dutch gardens, resulting in a look that is both classic and modern. Every project is special to us, but providing flowers for Prinsjesdag is always a true highlight. We also value reusing the flowers a tradition we uphold every year.
Flower Flash
Six o’clock in the morning the city is quiet, except for a bit of movement at the IJssel ferry. The deck of the ferry is being transformed with over 1,500 flower stems, together forming a vibrant sea of color.
This isn’t the first flower flash; last year, a bench at the Grote Kerkhof was turned into a blooming work of art.
Ferry skipper Georg Keibler watches contentedly as his ferry becomes a piece of art. At eight o’clock, he makes the first crossing, carrying surprised passengers admiring the floral deck. A Belgian tourist calls it “très chic,” while a Deventer local takes a flower home for his girlfriend.
The ferry is an icon of the city. With these flowers, we want to give something back to the people of Deventer. Read the full interview with De Stentor here.
